EVANSVILLE — Evansville City Councilor Tanisha Carothers resigned from her Fourth Ward seat Friday as she fights accusations in civil and criminal court that she failed to meet the residency requirements of the office.
Carothers, who won a Democratic Party caucus to fill the council seat vacated by Alex Burton in November 2024, tendered her "immediate resignation" to the clerk's office early Friday afternoon, her attorney, Jonathan Danks, told the Courier & Press.
"I entered public office to work for people, not to participate in a political machine," Carothers said in a statement. "After much thought and prayer, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my position on the Evansville City Council serving the Fourth Ward, effective immediately."
