Amsterdam sewer break leaks untreated wastewater

AMSTERDAM — A break to a minor sewer main last week in a difficult to access location on Amsterdam’s South Side has leaked an estimated 900 gallons of untreated wastewater while awaiting repairs.

City Engineer Mike Clark said the roughly 2-inch pipe carried on the bridge over the South Chuctanunda Creek between Erie Terrace and Gilliland Avenue suffered a break amidst cold weather around Dec. 3.
