ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Appalachian Power (APCo) is warning water enthusiasts downstream of Claytor and Leesville Dams to know about the rising water levels on the New and Roanoke Rivers on Sunday, December 14.

The water levels could fluctuate throughout the week, said the power company.

APCo says the National Weather Service is calling for cold temperatures. PJM , the independent regional transmission organization that manages an electric grid in 13 states, has notified the power company that it may need to increase power generation at its hydroelectric plants to maintain the reliability of the grid if called upon.
