Shamans from across Peru gathered on a beach in Lima Friday, performing a traditional ritual they say helps them read what lies ahead for the country and the region.

Using palo santo, coca leaves, black tobacco, plant-based jungle brews and flower petals, the healers opened the ceremony by giving thanks to Pachamama, or Mother Earth, and Cochamama, Mother Sea. They then began prayers meant to illuminate the future.

The shamans focused part of their ritual on Chile’s upcoming presidential runoff. Their visions were mixed, but most predicted that José Kast would win, saying they sensed voters calling for a change in government.

Dressed in traditional clothing, the shamans say they bring ancestral knowledge passed down through generations—echoing the roles healers and spiritual leaders held in Inca times and earlier civilizations.
