Former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner is calling on state lawmakers to convene a special legislative session before the Christmas holiday to roll back property taxes, saying Floridians need “immediate relief.”

Renner, who is running for governor, wants the Legislature to reverse property taxes to 2024 levels by the end of the year. He argues that waiting for long-term reform would leave homeowners and renters struggling under rapidly rising costs.

“There are people on fixed incomes, people struggling to make ends meet,” Renner said in an interview. “This proposal is the only way under the constitution to do a two-thirds rollback that would allow for an immediate reduction in property taxes.
