BASTROP, La. (KNOE) - The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal (SFM) announced Friday it is investigating a deadly house fire that claimed the life of a teenager earlier in the week.

In a statement, SFM says the fire started just before 6:00 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 900 block of Arant Street in Bastrop.

In this statement, the SFM stated shortly before 6:00am the Bastrop Fire Department responded to a home in the 900 block of Arant Street in Bastrop about a fire.

Once firefighters arrived they found the house ingulfed by flames. A 16-year-old male had died as a result of the fire, while the seven other people inside had escaped the fire unharmed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigators say the house did not have any working smoke alarms.
