FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - After one volunteer fire department closed its doors in Fayette County, its partners are stepping up to answer the call.
“We’ve worked together for years,” Montgomery Fire Department Chief Freddie Perdue said.
Smithers Volunteer Fire Department is no longer in service.
This announcement came after the city of Smithers said financial mismanagement, lack of effective leadership, training and low recruitment rates all were issues.
Perdue said it has been a seamless transition for them since that closure, with no uptick in calls and no delay in response times.
The chief said they are working with the Boomer Volunteer Fire Department to handle calls in the area.
