Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha Friday said India has indigenously built a light tank named after legendary Dogra warrior General Zorawar Singh, and that it underwent successful trials this year in Ladakh’s Nyoma at 4,200 metres and in the deserts of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
Paying tribute to General Zorawar Singh on his martyrdom day, Sinha said the light tank, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment, was designed for high-altitude mountain warfare and can also be deployed in deserts. He said it was completed in a record two years.
Sinha pointed out that the tank weighs nearly 25 tonnes, ensuring swift mobility in border areas, and that it can be airlifted to these places due to its lightweight. He
