BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WNDU) - Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza has won the 2025 Maxwell Award.
The award is presented annually to the most outstanding all-around college football player in the country. It’s named after sportswriter Robert “Tiny” Maxwell and is considered one of college football’s top awards alongside the Heisman Trophy.
Mendoza beat out Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin for the honor.
Mendoza, who is the second Indiana player to win the award and the first since running back Anthony Thompson won it in 1989, has thrown for a Bowl Subdivision-leading 33 touchdowns and run for six, giving him a school-record 39 TDs accounted for.
