LYON COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - Last week, some Lyon County residents who have a family member in jail were targeted in a bail bond scam, according to a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
Within a day or two of being arrested, scammers impersonated sheriff’s office sergeants and told family members that money was needed to post bail or to cover jail-related programs, the post said.
They typically demand payment through gift cards or mobile payment apps, the post said.
“Law enforcement will never request payment through these methods,” the post said.
Scammers got inmate details through public records or by using mobile jail roster apps.
