RIDGEFIELD — Columbia River’s roster has a new look this year, but the Rapids still play a brand of basketball similar to last year when they took home the Class 2A fourth-place state trophy.

Many of those traits — gritty defense, hustle plays and balanced scoring — were on display Friday in River’s 69-58 win over Ridgefield, the Rapids’ first 2A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball win.

“Our defense made our offense in this game, and it showed,” senior Josh Paxton said. “We haven’t been getting a bunch of buckets just coming down the (floor), so getting the turnovers helped us get a lot of points in this game.”

“All those little things are what definitely won us the game,” senior Kellan Clary added.
