The executive director of the state Department of Natural Resources told an investigator that in retrospect, he’d answer a conflict-of-interest question differently today when it comes to his wife’s then-employment at a nonprofit that did wolf-related work for the state, but he continues to defend his earlier decision not to disclose that employment.

Dan Gibbs’ reported comments are contained in an investigation report regarding an ethics complaint filed against him in late 2021. The Colorado Independent Ethics Commission decided unanimously in 2022 that the complaint isn’t frivolous and should be fully investigated.

The report also says Gibbs said he suggested to his wife that her employer might not want to bid to do the wolf work due to the controversy over Colorado wolf reintroduction
