MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Two people are dead, and three officers are recovering after a fiery crash in Mesa early Saturday morning.
The collision happened near the intersection of Southern Avenue and Dobson Road just before 12:30 a.m. Investigators say a vehicle heading westbound was speeding and rear-ended a second vehicle that was coming out of a private drive. The rear-end impact caused the second vehicle to go up in flames.
The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead. A child who was a passenger in the second vehicle also died. Several other people were also hospitalized with minor injuries, but the exact number of people is unknown at this time.
Officers quickly raced to rescue people who were inside the burning vehicle, and three officers sustained minor injuries.
