WELLESLEY, Mass. —
Firefighters in Wellesley, Massachusetts, sprang into action on Friday morning after a deer was trapped on the ice on Lake Waban for several hours.
Crews were alerted to the incident around 10 a.m.
The deer was stuck about 40 to 50 yards from the shore and was losing energy.
Wellesley Fire Chief Stephen Mortarelli said a steep embankment on the lake made it hard for the doe to get out on its own.
Firefighters donned wetsuits and made their way out to the exhausted animal, eventually clearing a path for her to escape.
The deer is currently being monitored by Animal Control Officer Jennifer Smith.
