MORGANTON, N.C. — A 17-year-old driver is facing multiple charges, including driving while impaired, after running a red light and crashing into a Morganton patrol car Friday night.
The crash happened after 11 p.m. at the intersection of East Union and North Green streets near Marquee Cinemas, according to the Morganton Department of Public Safety .
Investigators said the teen ran a red light and struck a Morganton public safety officer who was traveling through the intersection. Neither the juvenile nor the officer sustained serious injuries, though Burke County EMS responded to the scene.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol conducted the crash investigation. Troopers then determined the teen was driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.
