A suspect is not in custody amid an ongoing active shooter situation near Brown University's campus in Providence, Rhode Island, according to an emergency alert issued by the Ivy League school .
Moments after posting its second alert on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 13, in which the school said "one suspect in custody," a third alert clarified that "police do not have a suspect in custody and continue to search for suspect(s)."
"Continue to shelter in place. Remain away from Barus & Holley area," the third alert continues. "Brown coordinating with multiple law enforcement agencies on site. Emergency medical on scene. Stay tuned for further safety."
The school's previous alerts advised residents and students to "lock doors, silence phones and stay stay hidden until further notice."
