The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J., has elevated the previous winter weather advisory for Delaware County and the immediate Philadelphia area to a winter storm warning for up to 8 inches of snow for the event expected to start late Saturday night.
The overnight forecast is for 3 to 7 inches and possibly another inch after daybreak. The event is expected to start as rain by 11 p.m. with the snowfall turning intense overnight.
“Precipitation intensity looks to maximize during the pre-dawn hours Sunday, and right now it appears that the heaviest snow will be near the I-95 corridor,” the government forecasters say.
The warning reads in part: “Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions.
