MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - High school students stepped into the roles of lawmakers, lobbyists and journalists during a one-day workshop hosted by the Governor’s Institutes of Vermont at the Statehouse.

Students crafted, advocated for and reported on several bills dealing with immigration, equity in education, the environment and other issues during the program designed to engage young people in civics and government.

The workshop culminated with students presenting their bills and voting on them in the full House chamber, giving participants a realistic legislative experience.
