PROVIDENCE – A lockdown of the Brown University campus was still in effect as of 8:30 p.m. Saturday, following a mass shooting at the university.

The shooter remained at-large after reportedly killing two victims and critically injuring another nine.

"The Brown campus continues to be in lockdown, and it is imperative that all members of our community remain sheltered in place," stated the university. "This means keeping all doors locked and ensuring no movement across campus. The law enforcement response remains ongoing. Safety is the utmost and essential priority."

Brown President Christina Paxson was describing it as a tragic day for the school, its families, and the community.
