HOLBROOK, AZ (AZFamily) — Investigators say a suspect led Arizona Department of Public Safety authorities on a pursuit, leading to a deadly shootout in the northeastern part of the state on Saturday.
DPS says around 10 a.m., a sergeant was chasing a driver heading eastbound on Interstate 40. The driver reportedly went off of the freeway and headed into the desert east of Holbrook.
Authorities say the suspect began shooting at law enforcement, who returned fire. Around 1:45 p.m., the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No troopers were hurt in the shooting.
The department’s Major Incident Division will be leading the investigation. The suspect has not yet been identified by authorities.
