Two gunmen who launched a mass shooting attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney were father and son, New South Wales Police commissioner Mal Lanyon told a press conference in Sydney.

The gunmen opened fire at a Jewish festival on Australia's Bondi Beach and killed at least 16 people, including a much-loved British Rabbi and a 12-year-old girl, in a horrific terror attack.

Police said 40 other people, including four children, remain in hospital with injuries. Police have declared the attack a "terrorist incident".

Mr Lanyon told reporters: "The offenders are a 50-year-old and 24-year-old male, who are father and son. The 50-year-old is deceased. The 24-year-old is currently in hospital at the moment."
