The two gunmen who instigated a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney were identified as father and son, according to New South Wales Police commissioner Mal Lanyon during a press conference in Sydney.

The elder gunman, who was fatally shot by police, held licences for six firearms, all of which were recovered from the scene at Bondi Beach.

Two "active devices" of a "fairly basic" design were also discovered at Bondi Beach, which were subsequently removed and neutralised.

Mr Lanyon stated: "I'm very glad that those devices were not activated."

In an update on Sunday evening, New South Wales Police revealed that the victims ranged in age from 10 to 87 years old.
