A Quebec Mountie is currently facing a criminal investigation for allegedly making threatening comments online during the G7 summit last month, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The Journal de Montréal was the first to report this incident, stating that the officer's remarks were directed at U.S. President Donald Trump.

Sources cited by the French-language newspaper also claim that the officer is accused of leaking sensitive information regarding Trump's movements. Such actions could represent a significant security breach, potentially endangering the president's safety. However, CBC News has not independently verified these claims.

An RCMP spokesperson declined to provide specific details about the case, including the officer's identity. They confirmed that the officer is under both a criminal investigation and an internal code of conduct review. "Depending on the outcome of the evidence review, criminal charges may be laid," said Cpl. Érique Gasse. "The RCMP takes all threats that may impact the sense of safety seriously. Violent language or behaviour is not tolerated."

The G7 summit, hosted in Kananaskis, Alberta, was marked as one of the largest domestic security operations in Canadian history. The event required extensive resources from the RCMP, other police forces, and the Canadian Armed Forces to ensure safety, including the establishment of no-fly zones.

In preparation for the summit, the RCMP was vigilant about potential threats, particularly given that Trump had been the target of assassination attempts during his presidential campaign last year. The investigation into the Mountie's alleged comments adds another layer of complexity to an already significant security operation.
