BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A new specialty license plate initiative in Alabama could significantly enhance law enforcement training across the state if enough people sign on.
Organizers behind the campaign are working to secure at least 1,000 pre-commitments for a custom vehicle tag through the Alabama Department of Motor Vehicles.
The one-year window to reach that goal began June 1, 2025, and runs through June 1, 2026.
If the initiative reaches its 1,000-plate threshold, it would raise $50,000 in funding — enough to cover tuition for roughly 125 officers to attend SWAT School or 277 officers to complete Trauma Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training, according to organizers.
