BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) -- With all of the rain and high temperatures predicted, high humidity could follow.
Some areas of southern West Virginia may have higher humidity than others and there's an odd cause for it.
Corn sweat.
Corn sweat, or crop sweat, is a phenomenon where the air around a field of crops is more humid and hotter than in other areas.
Keith Richmond, County Executive Director for the Ralegh County Farm Service Agency, explained this odd occurrence.
"You're gonna see it around any type of crop field. You see it around corn real often cause it's a bigger plant. You get evaporation from the soil, your get transpiration from the plant, and they call that evapotranspiration, is what it's called. It's just where it's putting off the humidity during these hot days," said Richmon
