BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - New funding could bring some much-needed support resources to Raleigh County. Raleigh County Commission members announced the opening of the application process for the Raleigh County New Direction Grant on Tuesday during the commission's Regular Session meeting.

Local organizations can now apply for grant funding from Raleigh County's share of the West Virginia Opioid Settlement funds. Grants submitted will be reviewed by an advisory committee put together for the initiative. Raleigh County Commission President, Greg Duckworth said the first round of funds will be geared toward kids and prevention in schools throughout the area.
