The champions have been crowned.
The equipment has been packed away for the summer.
All that’s left to put a bow on the 2024-25 high school sports season in the Monroe County Region is to crown the biggest champion.
And you get to help.
The Monroe News has begun to process of picking the overall athlete of the year. It’s something we’ve done since 1992 when Jamie Mossburg of Airport won for the boys and Bedford’s Jennie Bringman were the first winners.
Alana Aulph of Monroe won for the girls and Airport’s Jack Mills was the boys recipient last year.
The purpose of the award is to recognize the accomplishments of athletes over a variety of sports, not just excellence in a single area.
For instance, Mills made All-Region teams in football, wrestling and baseball last year.
A dozen to
