Former New York Mets manager Willie Randolph is still shocked about his firing 17 years later.
During a radio interview with WFAN’s Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata on Thursday , Randolph said he still has bad feelings since he was let go amid a rollercoaster three-year stretch in 2008.
“When I got fired, I was shocked,” Randolph said. “I can’t believe it to this day and not getting another shot is even crazier.”
Randolph took over as Mets manager in 2005. A year later, the Mets (97-65) rolled to the best record in baseball and came within a game of the World Series, falling in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Championship Series.
