Two Canadian soldiers stationed at a base in eastern Alberta are recovering after being stabbed during a brawl. The incident occurred at a residence in Wainwright, located about 200 kilometers southeast of Edmonton. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to a disturbance call late Friday night.
According to the RCMP, a 23-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The police reported that the two soldiers were taken to a local hospital for treatment. One of the injured soldiers was later transferred to Edmonton for more specialized medical care.
Lt.-Col. Lena Angell, a spokesperson for the Canadian Armed Forces, stated that three junior military members were involved in the altercation with a civilian. She noted that several other military personnel witnessed the fight. The Canadian Armed Forces will fully cooperate with the ongoing RCMP investigation.
"All CAF members are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism; any incident of misconduct is thoroughly investigated and addressed through appropriate administrative or disciplinary measures," Angell said in an emailed statement.
Canadian Forces Base Wainwright is recognized as one of the busiest army bases in Canada. The investigation into the incident remains active as authorities gather more information.
