PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) -- High school football teams are getting closer to the finish line.
Summer programs are wrapping up for area football teams. Most teams will finish their summer workouts in the next few days and then turn their attention to the start of fall practice on Aug. 11.
But coaches believe the limited practice schedule they are allowed to use will be beneficial once fall practice begins next month.
"We have a really good idea going into August of where we are going to be," said Morton head coach Adam O'Neill. "I think, especially in a big state like Illinois where there is a limited amount of playoff spots, it's important we get to do this. You can't be surprised in Week 1."
The Illinois High School Association allows football teams 20 "contact days" for the summer. T
