The cattle corrals on the hillside west of the Mariposa Port of Entry were quiet and empty this week – a stark contrast to what would typically be a busy scene with constant cross-border trade of livestock from Mexico to the United States.

The scene on Monday was a result of the current closure of the Nogales livestock port of entry, following reports of cattle infected with the New World Screwworm (NWS) in southern Mexico. ×
