NEW ORLEANS — A 65-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler on Thursday in New Orleans.

The crash happened at the intersection of St. Claude Avenue and Franklin Avenue just after 4:30 p.m.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was driving west on St. Claude Ave. near the intersection of Franklin Avenue.

The bicyclist, who was also traveling westbound on St. Claude Avenue, reportedly veered into the blind spot of the truck driver causing the vehicle to strike the bicyclist, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the 18-wheeler stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
