Week that was in Cumberland: Fire, stolen cars, arrest

CUMBERLAND – Bear Hill Road saw more than its fair share of action over the past week, including a fire and a case of stolen vehicles.

A fire broke out in an RV at a home at 1 Willow Drive, on the corner with Bear Hill Road, last Saturday afternoon, badly damaging the camping vehicle and spreading to the wall of the home next to it. Firefighters were able to put it out before it spread beyond the side wall.

Fire Chief Nick Anderson said they decided to leave the cause of the fire as undetermined. He said the area of origin was the passenger side rear tires, where there was recently some activity.

No one was injured, said the chief, and the owners of the home were in the front yard when they called about the fire.

“Quick response, quick knockdown,” he said.
