A Coryell County jury on Wednesday found Cody Gene Ayers, of Gatesville, to be guilty of tampering with physical evidence in connection with the 2022 homicide of Elizabeth Romero of Waco.
Romero was murdered at an address near Gatesville and her body was later disposed of at a nearby bridge.
Tampering with Physical Evidence is a third-degree felony, with punishment ranging from 2 to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and an optional fine up to $10,000.
Ayers will be sentenced at a later date.
Jury selection began Tuesday, with the two-day trial concluding the following day.
During the trial, the state presented testimony from five witnesses, including co-defendants Jessica Robinson and Betsy Ayers Robinson, who were also arrested in connection to the homicide.
