CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Two Iowa high school students are spending this week in the Washington, D.C. area learning how the U.S. government works—from the inside out.
Bronson Beals, an incoming senior at Linn-Mar High School in Marion, and James Peng of Cedar Falls High School, were selected to represent Iowa at the 79th session of American Legion Boys Nation, a civic leadership program held at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia.
The two are among just 100 students—two from each state chosen for the program after participating in their state’s Boys State session.
The Boys Nation “senators” take part in mock legislative sessions, learn how federal government operates, and even meet with national leaders.
Beals says the weeklong experience has made him excited about the futur
