SCOTT COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — A Scott County man arrested in connection with the death of a three-month-old infant has pleaded guilty to murder.

The Mansfield Police Department (MPD) reported that on Aug. 2, 2023, officers were called to a home on Huntington Avenue by a witness who said a child was unresponsive.

MPD Chief Wayne Robb said that when officers entered the home the baby was covered with a blanket, and when they pulled the blanket back, they "immediately realized the baby was deceased."

Manfield police asked Arkansas State Police to assist the investigation, and Rodger Sorg was arrested less than a week later.

Officials said two other children were in Sorg's care at the time of the murder.

Sorg was initially charged with first-degree murder, to which he pleaded not guilty.
