Tyler Boebert, the eldest son of U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert, has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse following an incident involving his infant son. The charge was filed on July 11 by the Windsor Police Department in Colorado. According to official documents, the charge stems from criminal negligence, but no injury or death occurred.
The incident reportedly involved Tyler's young son leaving the family home unsupervised. Representative Boebert described the situation as a result of a "miscommunication" regarding who was responsible for monitoring the child. She characterized it as a "one-time incident" and emphasized that no harm came to the child. The family has since met with Child Protective Services to review safety procedures.
In a statement, Boebert said, "Tyler has been doing a great job getting his life on track as a father and citizen over the past year. As the citation states, there was absolutely no injury or physical abuse involved. I am confident this is a one-time incident that we have addressed as a family."
This latest charge adds to a series of legal troubles for Tyler Boebert. Earlier in 2024, he faced 22 charges, including multiple counts of vehicle break-ins and property theft. He ultimately pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft, which resulted in a plea deal that dropped the remaining charges. Tyler was sentenced to two years of probation, with the possibility of having the charge expunged if he complies with the terms.
In a previous incident in September 2022, Tyler was involved in a car accident while driving his father's SUV, which resulted in injuries to a passenger. Initially ticketed for careless driving, the charge was later reduced to a minor vehicle violation under a plea agreement.
In January 2024, Tyler called the police, alleging that his father, Jayson Boebert, had assaulted him. Jayson was arrested but later recanted his claims regarding a separate domestic incident involving Representative Boebert.
Tyler Boebert is scheduled to appear in Weld County Court on September 8 for the child abuse charge. It remains unclear whether this new citation could affect his current probation status.
