MOUNT VERNON — Two people are dead and five others injured following a shooting early Sunday morning in the 600 block of South 15th Street, prompting city leaders to issue a strong plea for public cooperation and assistance in the investigation.

A community prayer gathering will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at The Commons, located across the street from the Jefferson County Courthouse in Mount Vernon.
