MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- UPDATE: The Mount Vernon Police Department has released the names of the victims in the recent shooting and announced an arrest.

Zomarrius Williams, 20, from Mt. Vernon, and Demonta Woodward, 26, from Mounds, were identified as the individuals killed in the July 27 incident.

Jerria J. Smith, 22, from Mt. Vernon, was earlier arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice. On July 29, the Jefferson County State's Attorney says these charges have been dropped.

Authorities are in the early stages of the investigation and expect more arrests and charges as they continue to pursue leads and gather evidence.
