NAUGATUCK, CT (WFSB) - The shooting of a man who suffered from a mental illness in Naugatuck last year was found to be justified, according to the Office of the Inspector General.

Kyle O’Creene survived the gunshot wounds fired by Naugatuck police on April 25, 2024.

According to Inspector General Eliot Prescott’s report, which was released on Tuesday, police responded to Baummer’s Pond Park for a report about a man pointing a knife at people.

Officers arrived and found O’Creene in a dark jacket near a picnic table at the pond’s edge.

“As the officers approached, O’Creene removed a knife from his pocket and began walking towards the officers,” the report said. “He did not comply with their orders to drop the knife.”
