HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - The Capital City is one step closer to officially appointing a permanent police chief.

Tonight, city council members will get the chance to speak with James Rovella before making their vote.

Less than two weeks ago the mayor announced his choice as the next Hartford police chief to be James Rovella.

Now, it’s the city councils turn to speak with Rovella and ask him questions before taking a vote as to whether they’re on board with this pick.

Rovella is no stranger to the job. He has been serving as interim police chief since February, but he also led the department as chief from 2012 to 2018.

The mayor has said Rovella is the kind of person they had been looking for, someone with deep ties to the community.

But the city found itself looking for another leader
