PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee joined 12 News at 4 on Tuesday to discuss the Newport Hospital birthing center, health concerns at the DCYF building and RIPTA's proposed service cuts amid a budget shortfall.
McKee said he was pleased by the decision to keep the birthing center open and credited recent discussions with health officials and a phone call with the head of Brown University Health.
The governor also addressed concerns about the safety of workers inside DCYF headquarters. He referenced a report shared with the union, saying there was "no need for any action" at this time, but stressed the state will "continue to monitor conditions."
McKee explained that RIPTA faces a $10 million budget shortfall amid declining ridership, which is down 25% over the last de
