CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Wildfires, floods and storms are racking up a massive bill — and most of it is falling on the U.S.

Weather disasters are costing the U.S. billions , and it’s only halfway through the year.

A new report shows storms, wildfires and other extreme weather have caused $93 billion in damage globally so far this year, with 70% of that total impacting in the U.S.

The worst event? The wildfires in southern California caused a record $53 billion in damage, including $13 billion for people without insurance.

Experts say the growing price tag is due to more development in high-risk areas, plus more intense disasters fueled by climate change.

Other costly events include tornadoes, floods and severe storms across the country, adding up to billions more in damage.
