RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new program to protect local businesses from crypto scams.
As part of Partnering Against Fraud, businesses are receiving flyers to post near machines, and in breakrooms to help customers and employees spot red flags.
“These scams are emotionally manipulative and high-pressure,” said Sheriff Darin Balaam. “Together, we can build a grassroots network of awareness.”
The WCSO says businesses should be on the lookout for customers using crypto machines while on the phone, confused or distressed behavior, and if they see people being pressured to send money quickly.
If you think you may be on a scam call, you are asked to hang up and call the WCSO at 775-785-9276.
