DES MOINES, Iowa — Back-to-school season is officially in full swing, and families across the state will soon get some financial relief this tax-free weekend.

Iowa's Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled to begin on the first Friday of August, as per Iowa Code.

This year, the annual event takes place from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, to midnight Saturday, Aug. 2. During that period, all open businesses will not collect sales tax on items of clothing or footwear valued at $100 or less.

The holiday does not include Sunday.

Most clothing and footwear items are eligible, defined by the Department of Revenue as "any article of wearing apparel and typical footwear intended to be worn on or about the human body." Remember, anything over $100 is not exempt from tax.
