BOISE, Idaho — The wildfire burning south of Boise that prompted evacuation notices Thursday evening was determined to be caused by an operation involving the disposal of explosives, officials confirm.

The Range Fire was sparked after the Mountain Home Air Force Base EOD detonated unexploded ordnance at the Orchard Training Center at the request of local law enforcement, the Idaho National Guard confirmed with KTVB.

Officials said the Camp Orchard Fire Crews were on standby in case of a fire, but had to wait until the area was declared safe in the event of a secondary explosion.
