JONESBORO — As Clayton County Public Schools enters the 2025-26 school year, there are more than 100 teacher vacancies throughout the school system, however, that number has been decreasing since 2022.

According to information presented at the Clayton County Board of Education’s July 28 work session, there were 124 teacher vacancies, as of July 25. As of July 14, there were 160 vacancies.

The majority of the vacancies, as of July 14, were in elementary education (47 vacancies) and special education (40 vacancies).

At the same time last year, there were 221 total vacancies.

In August of 2022, there were 379 vacancies and in August of 2023, there were 291.
