CHESHIRE, CT (WFSB) - Authorities have been investigating an animal hoarding case in Cheshire since Aug. 1.

According to Cheshire police, detectives and animal control officers secured a search and seizure warrant at a home on Cook Hill Road.

Cheshire police, municipal animal control, the fire department, public works, and human services all responded. The Chesprocott Health District also assisted on scene.

According to Hilary Norcia, acting director for the health district, 13 cats and one dog were seized.

Since then, police said they removed six additional cats with traps that had to be left at the home because the homeowner was not cooperative.

Norcia said that the animals were not abused, but the family wasn’t cleaning up after them.
