WASHINGTON — The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has announced it will begin a formal wind-down of its operations following the elimination of its federal funding, bringing an end to a nearly 60-year legacy of supporting public media across the U.S.
The nonprofit organization, which provides financial backing to thousands of public radio and television stations including National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service, announced Friday that it will cease most operations by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
The decision comes after Congress passed a bill for fiscal 2026 excluding CPB funding for the first time in more than five decades.
