One person has died and 30 others are sick in a Legionnaires’ disease cluster in Central Harlem, Manhattan, the city's Department of Health said.
The department is sampling and testing the water from all cooling tower systems in the area to find the source of the bacteria.
According to the department, individuals who have been in the affected area since the end of July and are showing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, coughing, or breathing difficulties, should seek “immediate medical attention.”
The department said the risk to most people is low, and the disease is not contagious.
